Mesothelioma - Your Basic Information
Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that has become more common. The most common cause of this cancer is exposure to asbestos. When exposed constantly with the failure to provide adequate protection, and the dust of asbestos fibres affecting the mesothelial cells that make up the mesothelium. Mesothelium is the outer lining, which protects some of the body most of the vital organs such as the heart and lungs. The mesothelial cells become abnormal after long periods of continuous exposure to asbestos causes a range of problems.
Because of the latency period and the symptoms of this cancer, mesothelioma is very difficult to diagnose. Mesothelioma takes decades to develop and mature fully and this is why many of the elderly men who were exposed to asbestos thirty years ago is just discovered them cancer. Many of these men currently housing multi-million dollar claims against companies that have exposure to the dangers of asbestos without adequate protection.
Organs that are most affected are mesothelioma in the lungs. Generally, the symptoms of mesothelioma typical of many other diseases, and this makes it very difficult to diagnose the disease.
There are treatments for mesothelioma, although this is usually unsuccessful. If the cancer is treated firmly in the early stages, then there is a good opportunity for the patient alive. However, because of the difficulty of diagnosis of mesothelioma, cancer does not normally exist until too late. Therapies used for mesothelioma include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy and palliative treatment. Additional research for the treatment of mesothelioma are on different cancer centers throughout the United States as well as by pharmaceutical companies.
